We have worked with so many amazing women, but one of the most exemplary figures, both as a team member and as a mother, is Angela Lolon Koten. Here’s a mother’s day story from Du Anyam.
Angela is our Field Facilitator in Solor Island, East Flores, and has been proven to have such a strong work ethic as she always finishes her reports very orderly and always submits them on time. Born and raised in Wulublolong Village, Solor Island, Angela has one daughter she holds most dear. She named her Yustina Kenikina Wotan, who goes by Resti as her nickname. On a daily basis, Angela works with us while she also runs a small kiosk in her house to support her family. Prior to joining Du’Anyam, she has been, and still is, a very active member in the village. She is the chairwoman of the neighborhood, the head of health post cadre, and the treasury of the village-owned business entity. All of her energy and her time, she dedicates them to Resti and her community.
Angela is an excellent example of the expression “determination knows no barrier”. As she only had the opportunity to finish elementary school, she really wanted her daughter to obtain higher education, although most of the times she was unsure whether she could make it happen. Resti is now 16 years old, and through the tireless effort of both Angela and Resti herself, she finally manages to go to Santa Matilda High School, a vocational high school for nursing in Maumere, quite far away from home.
We couldn’t be prouder to have a humble yet immensely inspiring woman like Angela in our family. She constantly proves that, with tireless effort and willingness to learn, anyone can achieve great things and create positive impact for the family. As part of our gratitude for her astounding work, at Du Anyam’s 4th anniversary celebration last month, we distributed a scholarship for Resti, in hope that she can pursue higher education.
Holding back her happy tears, she said to us, “Du Anyam, thank you. Resti has a dream to work in a laboratory. With this scholarship, I hope she can make it someday. Thank you.”
No, Bu An, we thank you.
