As co-founder and CEO of Du Anyam, a social enterprise that empowers women artisans in Indonesia’s far-reaching provinces, Melia Winata witnesses resilience and creativity every day. Inspired by the communities she serves, she has shaped a leadership style rooted in integrity, collaboration and continuous learning – ensuring that the story of empowerment is reflected in every woven piece.

Du Anyam transforms time-honoured wickerwork into contemporary home décor, furniture and corporate gifts, blending cultural heritage with modern design and sustainable practices. Beyond products, Melia drives programmes that strengthen community welfare, from education and healthcare to conserving raw materials, so that impact extends well beyond income generation.

What began as a small initiative in rural Flores, founded by Melia Winata together with her friends and co-founders Azalea Ayuningtyas and Hanna Keraf, has grown into a nationwide movement. Today, Du Anyam works with more than 1,600 women across over 50 villages, building weaving houses, offering scholarships, distributing nutritious food packages and bringing Indonesian craftsmanship to the global stage through exports and collaborations with international brands. “In the end, success for me is not only what I accomplish in the present, but the positive change and lasting impact that remain long after,” she says – a principle that guides her at every stage of growth.

Looking ahead, Melia is focused on scaling Du Anyam’s domestic and international presence while introducing low-carbon products and eco-friendly material choices. Her vision remains clear: to empower more women, preserve Indonesia’s weaving traditions and prove that heritage, sustainability and innovation can thrive together.
