As the world’s largest furniture retailer, IKEA has an ambition to be a leader in promoting business inclusivity through creating a fair and equal society by 2030. In their aim to do so, they have partnered up with different social enterprises from around the world, working with local suppliers in order to create real-world impacts that extend beyond their business. Within the framework of the IKEA works with Social Enterprise collaboration, many of their core social values are centered around improving social equality, quality of life, and raising working standards, especially for marginalized and vulnerable groups like Du Anyam weavers, goals that align with ours.
After years of hard work & preparation, we are excited to announce our collaboration with IKEA, bringing tradition and culture with a modern twist. We are selling four unique woven goods, three beautiful baskets, and one placement, each chock-full of culture and story to share.
Our baskets, taken from our Sobe collection, represent the way of life for the people in rural Indonesia. We have launched the FARULL 17, FARULL 25, and SLIPSKIVA baskets as well as the LYSTICKA placemat. These goods are all unique in their material and design- constructed by women artisans in an environmentally-friendly plant called palmyra.
Inspired by local craftsmanship, our woven goods are handmade by women artisans based in Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara. To be able to work with IKEA, we had to ensure that we met each and every of IKEA’s policies regarding sustainable and socially impactful work (IWAY). We’ve worked to ensure our products are environmentally sustainable and friendly, promoting regenerative growth of palmyra trees and practicing sustainable harvesting. Moreover, ensuring our weavers were provided healthcare, minimum wage, and other benefits were among some of the criteria we continue to meet while providing an equitable workspace and ensuring the work we do genuinely helps the communities we partner with.
The collaboration between IKEA works with Indonesia Social Enterprise will allow Du Anyam to grow their impact further towards providing a better quality of life for our weavers and their families.
